Damon and Bono fuel war against Pop
Posted on Tuesday, October 24 @ 07:15:46 CEST by Macphisto
-----------------------------------------------
(Dotmusic.com) -- Blur`s Damon Albarn and U2`s Bono have agreed with the recent sentiments of George Michael and Elton John and declared war on today`s bubblegum pop bands.
Damon has lashed out at the British music scene calling the current Top 10 "bollocks" and a "load of shit". The assault came the same week that Blur`s new single `Music Is My Radar` went into the UK charts at Number 10.
Bono has taken it one step further and has spoken out about current chart bands proclaiming: "They`re dead - their time is over."
A UK tabloid has reported that the singer is determined that when U2 go back out on the road next year they will prove that rock`n`roll can live on through them.
The day after George Michael called manufactured band "rubbish", Bono blasted from the BBC`s Maida Vale studios in London: "People are sick to the teeth of processed and hyped pop bands. It`s crap. They want something real again and that`s where we come in. The tide is turning."
He continued: "The state of music in Britain and Ireland hasn`t been very healthy recently but you can tell it`s changing by the chart positions of the pop acts they are slipping.
"We went in at Number One which surprised me. We were Number One in the singles chart and Radiohead Number were One in the album chart. This tells me things are changing for the better. Fans are getting wiser. I mean, who are Steps?"
Meanwhile, U2 have decided to ditch a song they recorded with Mick Jagger and his 16-year-old daughter Elizabeth.
The ballad, `Stuck In A Moment You Can`t Get Out Of`, originally featured backing vocals by the Jaggers, which they added while visiting the band at the studio. U2 were recording their new long-player, `All That You Can`t Leave Behind` at the time.
The band`s guitarist, The Edge, confessed that they decided to scrap that version after the song took "a different direction".
The original recording will be sent to Mick and Elizabeth "to say thanks to them for their generosity, really, just coming in and giving us their opinion about how they thought it was going."
It`s been reported that Blur are very much looking forward to heading back into the studio early next year. Drummer Dave Rowntree said: "We`re all itching to make another album really, having had this much time apart has made us more enthusiastic."
