(ABC News) -- Irish rockers U2 will perform their Oscar-nominated hit from Gangs of New York at this year's Academy Awards ceremony, while superstar John Travolta will also make an appearance.
Organisers of cinema's highest honours announced that the veteran musicians would play The Hands that Built America which won U2 a nomination for best original song.
U2's Oscar nomination marks their first since they began performing together in the late 1970s.
The nomination is just one of 10 Oscar nods picked up by director Martin Scorsese's tale of vengeance amongst 19th century immigrants to America.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences also announced Hollywood superstar John Travolta will present a golden statuette to a winner at the March 23 show.
Other high-profile presenters at this year's show include top stars Julia Roberts, Dustin Hoffman, Richard Gere, Cameron Diaz, Ben Affleck, Harrison Ford, Michael Douglas and Jim Carrey.
Also doing a turn will be actresses Jennifer Garner, Renee Zellweger, last year's best actress Oscar winner Halle Berry, diva Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Connelly, Julianne Moore, last year's best actor winner Denzel Washington, Colin Farrell, Meg Ryan and Will Smith.
The nominations for this year's Oscars in 24 categories were unveiled on February 11, with the hit musical Chicago dominating the competition with 13 nods, including one for Catherine Zeta-Jones.
