Rare U2 photos go under hammer

(BBC.co.uk) -- Extremely rare early photographs of rock band U2 are set to go under the hammer in Ireland.
The previously unseen collection, by world-renowned photographer Anton Corbijn, is up for auction at James Adam salesrooms in Dublin on Tuesday.
Four prints, accompanied by a hand written note to lead singer Bono, are together estimated to sell for between £5,500 and £8,000.
Dutchman Corbijn has been responsible for numerous U2 album covers and is credited with playing a key role in the development of the band's image.
His collection includes the face of U2's Boy and War albums, and is going under the hammer as the rock band kicks off its world wide Vertigo tour.
Jane Beattie, head of fine art at James Adam and Sons, said the collection was "very poignant".
"The photographs of the band belong to and feature Peter Rowen (aka Radar), the young man that was the face of U2's most iconic early album covers including Boy (1980) and War (1983)," she said. "We are privileged to be offering such a unique collection of early photographs of the band.
"We expect considerable interest in this lot from both fans of U2 and of Corbijn's photography."
In December, a signed photo of the band sold for £8,000 at the same auction house.
The latest collection is catalogued as lot 121 in the auction house's Contemporary and Modern Art Sale.
The entire contents of the sale can be viewed on 4 and 5 April between 0930 BST and 1700 BST at the salesrooms in St Stephen's Green in Dublin or online.
Anton Corbijn will be publishing a book entitled 'U2 and I' later this year, which chronicles Corbijn's relationship with the band over the past 25 years.
