Opening of Anton Corbijn 'U2 & I' exhibition in Berlin
Posted on Wednesday, July 06 @ 23:37:15 CEST by Macphisto

Here are a few photos from the opening of Anton Corbijn's "U2 & I" exhibition in Berlin, an exhibition featuring only pictures of U2. Wim Wenders held the laudation.
As can been seen on the pictures, there were lots of people there including around 20 photographers and a few TV teams. From the way the crowd reacted when Corbijn finally arrived, you could get the impression that it was Bono himself who was making his way through the crowd. He had to write lots of autographs and smiled into all cameras.
In his laudation, Wim Wenders made up a funny story about how Anton Corbijn and U2 got together. He said that Corbijn had wanted to become famous and that he had written a couple of songs and looked for a band to sing them. So he found four Irish guys and gave two of them nicknames (Bono Vox and The Edge) whereas the other two were allowed to keep their names. He also said that the band is dependent on him and that it's he who gets all the money. On a more serious note, Wenders described his own experience of being photographed by Corbijn. He said that when you are in front of his camera, you feel portrayed very well and that he looks at you in a very gentle way, so you end up doing everything he wants you to do. Corbijn himself held only a short speech, saying that he feels a bit uncomfortable in this situation. He talked about the exhibition being the first one that only deals with one band. Furthermore, he thanked Wim Wenders for his laudation and said that he hadn't realized that his secret was so well-known. Overall, he seemed to enjoy himself and obviously had lots of fun taking pictures of the people photographing him.
